Keynote speakers
This page presents the keynote speakers of the conference. Our speakers are leading scholars whose work has shaped the study of crises and crisis management across disciplines. Together, their talks will provide a common point of departure for the interdisciplinary discussions that run throughout the conference program.
Paul ’t hart
Paul ’t Hart works as professor of public administration at the Utrecht University School of Governance and is a core faculty member of the Australia New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG). He is also member and vice-president of the Scientific Council for Government Policy (‘Wetenschappelijke Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid’), the Dutch government’s independent think tank advising the Dutch cabinet and parliament about long-range and boundary-crossing public policy challenges.

Louise K. Comfort
Louise K. Comfort is Professor and former Director, Center for Disaster Management, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh. She is also affiliated faculty with the Policy Lab, Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS). She has published seven books, more than 100 research articles in refereed journals, and more than 25 book chapters on public policy, organizational design and analysis, and decision making under uncertainty. Her current research focuses on the interactive uses of information technology to support collective decision making in urgent events, using early tsunami detection and warning and wildfire evacuation operations as field study contexts.

Christopher Ansell
Christopher Ansell is Professor of Political Science. He is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and the Faculty Director of Berkeley’s Center for Catastrophic Risk Management

Beatrice de Graaf is a Distinguished Professor and holds the Chair of History of International Relations & Global Governance at Utrecht University She is also the Scientific Director at Adapt!

sanneke kuipers
Sanneke Kuipers is Full Professor in Crisis Governance and Scientific Director (WD) of the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) of Leiden University.
